Troubleshooting
Find guidance and recommended checks for common situations involving installation and startup, backups, and file storage.
Installation & startup
A security prompt appears during installation
When installing the program, you may see a prompt from Windows User Account Control (UAC), SmartScreen, or your security software.
To verify that the installer is an official release, follow these steps:
- Check that the file was downloaded from the official website (alphasov.com).
- Right-click the installer and open Properties → Digital Signatures. Make sure Alphasov is listed as the signer and that the digital signature is valid.
Even with a valid digital signature, newly released files may trigger security warnings or be restricted from running until they have established sufficient reputation.
Security software blocks installation or startup
Some security programs may restrict the download, installation, or launch of newly released files while checking them.
If this happens, check your security software's protection history or block log. Even if the file is safe, it may take time for the security vendor to complete its review and apply the results.
Try again after a few hours. If the file is still blocked, check again after a day or two. Processing times vary depending on the security software.
Do not disable security protections or force a blocked file to run.
If the issue persists, contact support@alphasov.com with the name of your security software and the warning message displayed.
The program window does not appear after launch
During installation or when launching the program for the first time, it may take a while for the window to appear, depending on your PC and security checks.
Even if nothing seems to happen, wait about a minute. Repeatedly launching the program may cause a “VAS is already running” message to appear.
Only one instance of the program can run at a time, so check the taskbar to see whether it is already running.
If the program still does not start after waiting, restart Windows and try again. If the issue continues, try reinstalling it using the official installer. If your security software has blocked the program, refer to the guidance above first.
Backup
Backup is interrupted
A task may be temporarily interrupted depending on your connection to YouTube or current network conditions. When the program detects this state, it stops the task and displays a notice. This is not specific to VAS and can also occur when YouTube is not working normally on your current internet connection. It is not limited to a particular program setting or edition.
Using the same internet connection, try playing a YouTube video in your browser's Incognito or Private Browsing mode. If the video does not play normally or YouTube displays an additional notice, YouTube may also not be working normally on the current connection.
If you use the program signed in with SovereignSignet™, check in a browser signed in to the same account.
If the issue persists, leave the task stopped rather than running it repeatedly. Once videos play normally in your browser, start the task again.
Processing is slow
Processing time varies depending on the length and source quality of the video, the selected format and resolution, your internet connection, and the number of tasks running at the same time. Depending on the selected video and audio formats, additional time may be required after downloading to merge or convert the files.
Some videos fail to process
If only certain videos fail, check whether they are currently available to you. Videos that have been deleted or cannot be viewed in your current environment cannot be processed.
For private, age-restricted, or members-only content, PRO and MASTER users can use SovereignSignet™ when they have permission to view that content.
Files & storage
How to find the save location quickly and easily
The save location depends on how you started the task. You can open it directly from the program's File menu.
- If you entered a video, playlist, or channel URL directly → Open URL Backup Folder
- If you started the task from the Channel Library (PRO · MASTER) → Open Channel Library Backup Folder
In MASTER, you can also use the folder button for each channel in the Channel Library to open that channel's save location directly.
When storage space is running low
Saving files requires free space in addition to the space used by the program installation. The amount required depends on the number and quality of the videos, and higher resolutions result in larger files.
Temporary files are also created while a task is running, so it is best to keep more free space available than the final files themselves will require.
